Mike Dougherty for Sheriff 2024

Michael (Mike) Dougherty is the son of Jean and the late Fred Dougherty of Mt. Olivet. He resides in Mt. Olivet with his Wife, Carrie, and their four daughters. He is a dedicated and lifelong resident of Marshall County and stands as a pillar of commitment and service. With 26 years of law enforcement expertise, including numerous disciplines within the Marshall County Sheriff's Office, he has honed his leadership and public safety advocacy skills.

From being the office's inaugural school resource officer to his retirement as a seasoned Sergeant overseeing various critical roles, his journey reflects his versatility and passion for community well-being. Outside of his law enforcement duties, Mike serves his community as a volunteer firefighter with the Mt. Olivet VFD and is a Marshall County Fair Board member.

Endorsed by the West Virginia Troopers Association, he envisions a proactive Sheriff's Office. His plans include revitalizing the dormant Special Response Team, hosting trainings open to all law enforcement, and fostering collaboration with all public safety agencies in Marshall County and throughout the surrounding areas. Mike will maintain a close working relationship with the local police chiefs to guarantee that every citizen, inside and outside of municipal jurisdiction, will be served and protected by the Sheriff and his deputies 24 hours a day.

Mike’s vision extends to crime prevention and community engagement. From re-enrolling in the Governor's Highway Safety Program involvement to ensuring deputies are present and visible during significant holidays, his proactive approach aims for a safer and more connected Marshall County. He also promises to focus on ensuring all deputies can attend training on expansive job-related topics, as he knows proper training is paramount to providing the best service to the citizens of Marshall County.

Moreover, his commitment to transparency is evident through plans to use various platforms such as social media, radio, news outlets, and recorded briefings to keep residents informed. Recognizing diverse schedules, Mike will introduce alternate office hours at the Public Safety Building after regular business hours, ensuring every citizen can voice concerns or seek answers from their elected official. In his pursuit of attaining the position of your Sheriff, Michael Dougherty emerges as a leader with a comprehensive and community-focused vision, poised to elevate law enforcement and public safety in Marshall County.
