Develop a more Proactive Sheriff's Office.
-
Better use of manpower to increase the number of Deputy Sheriffs on patrol.
-
Increased patrol efforts on holiday weekends.
-
Enforcement of Commercial Motor Vehicle Laws.
-
Community Outreach – Keeping citizens informed about the events around them is crucial. Ensuring transparency and providing accurate information can help build trust and promote a sense of security among the community.
-
As Sheriff, I will implement flexible office hours for myself to ensure accessibility for all citizens.
-
I will organize meetings with all local Chiefs of Police, Sheriff, and State Police Administrators regularly to share information and form tighter bonds among agencies.
-
I will update the Sheriff’s Office website with current and pertinent information and foster close working relationships with local media outlets.
Safety and Training
-
I will work with the Marshall County Commission to fund in-car cameras for the safety of deputies and citizens; the sheriff's office currently does not have any cruisers equipped with in-car cameras.
-
I will equip all sheriff’s office vehicles with Automatic External Defibrillators (AED); deputies will be trained yearly in basic first aid, CPR, and AED usage. These devices and training will undoubtedly save lives.
-
All deputies will be required to attend quarterly in-house training for firearms and defensive tactics in addition to the state-mandated training.
Re-implementation
-
Special Response Team - The SRT has been dormant since the COVID crisis hit.
The SRT is a group of highly trained and specially equipped deputies who respond to emergencies requiring advanced police tactics. The SRT is deployed in High-risk warrant executions. Forced building entries. Hostage situations. The SRT can also be used for search and rescue operations.
-
WV Governors Highway Safety Program - The sheriff's office has not participated in this lifesaving program for several years.
School Safety
-
I will collaborate closely with the Marshall County Board of Education to enhance the safety measures and security protocols of our schools. Furthermore, I will conduct regular meetings with all the School Resource Deputies to ensure that they are equipped with the latest training and tools required to safeguard our children.
Mental Health
-
I will provide Critical Incident Stress Debriefing for all first responders following traumatic incidents.
Morale
-
I will work diligently to increase and maintain morale within the sheriff's office.
-
Supervisors and I will practice positive reinforcement to show appreciation for sound decision-making, for initiative and for a job well done. Creating a culture of positive reinforcement in a law enforcement agency is one of the easiest ways to boost performance and morale instantly.
-
I will hold regular staff meetings that include all deputy sheriffs, not just sergeants, as they are currently held.
